Pay type guide

HygieNow pay types

Some hygienists prefer HygieNow payout / 1099. Some prefer office payroll / W-2. HygieNow is built to make the pay type clear before anyone commits to a shift.

The short version

HygieNow supports multiple pay structures. For every shift, the pay type should be visible before the hygienist accepts and before the office confirms coverage. If an office is open to either option, the final pay type should be clarified before the shift is booked.

HygieNow payout / 1099

Paid through HygieNow

HygieNow collects payment from the office after the completed shift and sends payment to the hygienist through Stripe.

  • Taxes are not withheld from the payment.
  • The hygienist may receive a 1099 if reporting thresholds are met.
  • This option keeps the current marketplace-style payout flow.
Office payroll / W-2

Paid by the office

The dental office pays the hygienist through its own payroll process. The office handles payroll paperwork, tax withholding, and related employment obligations.

  • HygieNow does not process the hygienist's wages.
  • The office may need W-4, I-9, or other onboarding documents.
  • HygieNow charges the office its platform fee separately.
Either

Office is open to both

If an office is open to either pay structure, HygieNow can ask the hygienist's preference and show that preference before the final booking decision.

  • Either is not the final booked pay type.
  • The shift should resolve to HygieNow payout / 1099 or office payroll / W-2.
  • The final confirmation should match the selected pay type.

Important note

HygieNow does not provide legal, tax, or employment classification advice. Dental offices and hygienists should use the pay structure that fits their situation and consult their own advisors when needed.
